Comparison of audio quality in streaming services

With rapidly increasing demand for streaming services in the past ten years, major companies like Netflix,  YouTube,  or Spotify had to overcome many difficulties on their road to success. One of the major problems, most platforms had to solve, was storage capacity and availability. While we as consumers are enjoying our content without ever thinking about what is happening behind the curtains,  YouTube ,  for example , has changed its video loading from full to partial, to decrease the load of thousands of users on its servers. Netflix, like many others, adopted this approach, but the most valuable helper for all of them is compression.             Without com pression , streaming would not be possible as we know it today. It decreases the size of raw files and reduces the bandwidth required to  transmi...

100 times the same song

Do you feel like changing the radio station when there is a modern pop song on? Does it feel like you are listening to an older songs just recycled 10 times. There may be a reason why you feel like that!          Making a hit song is very expensive these days and with the revenue from album sales decreasing each year, record labels want to make sure their song will get to top. Ghost writing is nothing new in music industry, but for many big labels it became a standard way to make a Top 10 hit. That is why they dont want to risk their investments and make unecessary bets onto unproved song writers with new original ideas.            They call their best, one of them is Max Martin. A Swedish song writer with more than 20 number one hits which he wrote or co-wrote including Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl" (2008), Maroon 5's "One More Night" (201...

Music starts

At the age of 15, I was asked to choose between a drum set or a new personal computer.  It wasn't a hard choice for me, altho I did spend a big chunk of my week playing games, but as a kid who was using any surface to make drum rhythms, I answered without hesitation. After about a year of playing any song I could think of, I decided I need a band, or at least someone else to accompany me in my noice making. Through my classmate in school a got into contact with a group of people who were playing in a small private music institution, but very soon I found out that my drumming skills werent good enough. Thus I found my self a jazz drumming teacher, which gave me the necesary boost to became a reliable drummer.            BUT, hitting wooden sticks against some plastic wasn't enough for me, I needed to create more than a rhythm.   My  missing  knowledge  of melody creation was frustrating enough to  force ...

A Beginning

If you asked me why I live on this planet,  I would say:  "Because earth is the only planet where you can find music" My fascination with music started around the time I was six years old, and I just go my first CD. It was The Great Escape by Blur and I listened to it on repeat for weeks, making my family go insane. From that moment I started collecting CDs and later songs on my PC, which led me to start playing drums at the age of fifteen. From playing in my attic to being part of multiple bands, I started to take it more seriously which led me to choose to apply to SAE Amsterdam for Music Production degree
